Dance shows are big works. Big works are made up of many small works. A dance show takes a team of people, working together. Every contribution matters. But one contribution that no dance show can happen without is the music. Would not be much of a dance show without music! DJs are the unsung heroes of dance. Unless you have DJed a show, you can’t imagine what they go through, chasing music, the time and effort it takes to organize a playlist, adjust their players’ settings to sim conditions so that they don’t crash or stall, and then the pressure of angry divas when the music stuffs up through no fault of their own. DJs seldom get noticed or even thanked. But they are the nerve center of any dance show, so I wanted to highlight them here on Showtime, let everyone get to know them better, and remind them of how much they are appreciated. This is an on-going series.
Shadow Tarber has been in Second Life for more than seven years. She found it when she was creating objects for The Sims, and when Maxis pulled The Sims, she decided to bring her creativity to SL. Shadow owns “The Shadows Silhouette Dancers” dance troupe, and somehow, along with running the troupe, doing choreography, creating dances, managing a sim, and surely a half-billion other things she does, she also manages to stream the music for the Silhouettes’ shows. All this while maintaining fabulous hair and not a one broken nail! She seems to take her manic schedule all in stride, actually seeming to enjoy her virtual overdrive lifestyle. ARE YOU CRAZY, WOMAN???? You do all that AND stream your own shows???? *faints*
I don’t know how she does it. Shadow plays a variety of music, naturally, depending on the theme of the show. She doesn’t DJ anywhere else, and no wonder, there are only so many hours in a day and this woman is busy! Does such a full SL impact her real life? She says with a laugh, “What RL???” Her thoughts on SL addiction? “Got it, revel in it, love it :)).” Hey, it’s not fattening, it’s cheap compared to many other addictions, it won’t rot your teeth… so why not enjoy it!
When asked what advice she would give to someone who wants to DJ, she said with another laugh, “OMG, ask a REAL DJ!” Gotta love her sense of humour and admire her energy, as she enjoys wearing her many hats!
Thank you for the time, energy and passion you give to SL dance, Shadow!
